Alex Rodriguez, while playing for the Seattle Mariners, hits for the cycle

The cycle is kind of a quirky achievement.  It often doesn’t take skill but instead it takes luck.  Players, for example have had 2 home runs, a triple, and a double in a game, which is an awesome accomplishment.  But had one of the home runs been a single they would have had a cycle. So while the cycle is extremely difficult to achieve, the best players aren’t necessarily to ones who hit for the cycle. But every now and then, one of the greatest players in the game does make it happen.

It was on this day, June 5th, 1997, that Alex Rodriguez hit for the cycle.  While playing for the Seattle Mariners, Arod did it against the Detroit Tigers on the road.

The Mariners demolished the Tigers that day, by a score of 14 – 6.  This allowed Alex to have 6 at bats which helped him to go for the cycle.  Despite hitting for the cycle, Rodriguez only knocked in 2 RBIs.  The cycle is about as a rare as a no-hitter, and while it isn’t as difficult to accomplish, it still excites Baseball fans when players are up to bat with a chance to complete the cycle.
