ABC:Terrell Owens Nicolette Sheridan Ad

Athletes are often integrated into advertising.  In some cases, the results are memorable, fun and enjoyable commercials.  In other instances, things do not go as smoothly.  Wide receiver Terrell Owens and the ABC network learned this lesson the hard way.

On this day, November 15th, in 2004, ABC and Terrell Owens apologized after airing a revealing ad with actress Nicolette Sheridan.  The ad in question was a skit with Owens, in uniform, and the Desperate Housewives actress, which ended with Sheridan removing her towel.  Although the skit was within the guidelines of the FCC, many viewers found the ad offensive.

The controversy for this ad was most likely heightened by the fact that it was played before millions of viewers on a Monday Night Football game.  Since then, networks have been careful to mix sexually suggestive advertising with family-friendly sports broadcasts.
