The 49ers win their first ever Super Bowl title defeating the Bengals 26 – 21 in Detroit

Joe Montana was a legendary quarterback who dominated an era.  He played for the San Francisco 49ers, and his legend began when he won a Super Bowl championship.

It was on this day, January 24th, in 1982, that the San Francisco 49ers won their first ever Super Bowl title.  They did so by defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 26 – 21 at the Pontiac Silverdome in Detroit.

Montana, although he didn’t play great in the game, was named MVP.  In fact, the Bengals outplayed the 49ers overall, outgaining them in yards and scoring more touchdowns than them.  However, five Bengals turnovers proved to be the difference as the 49ers prevailed and called themselves champions for the first time.
