Yankees Defeat Phillies in Game 6 of the World Series

As the 2009 baseball season began, the Philadelphia Phillies were defending champions and looking to repeat their dominance from the 2008 season. The last obstacle was a meeting with the New York Yankees.

On this day, November 4th, in 2009, the New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 6 of the World Series.  In Game 6, the Yankees had a 3-2 game lead, and were playing at home with a chance to clinch the championship.  The Yankees took a commanding 4-1 lead by the 3rd inning and did not let up, winning the game with a final score of 7-3.

By winning the 2009 World Series, the Yankees secured a record 27 championships. Hideki Matsui was named World Series MVP, largely in part to his record-setting number of RBIs.
