On this day April 21st, in 753 BC, according to myth Rome is founded by Romulus and Remus. Remus was killed by Romulus at some point in time over where the Kingdom should be situated, and Romulus named the city after himself – Rome. This founding date is stated as part of the Ab urbe condita, the founding of the city, and is much like the modern Common Era which counts years from the birth of Jesus.

The story goes that Romulus and Remus were left to die, but they were saved by a she wolf who kept them alive. Ancient Rome had some famous names like Julius Caesar, among others, came close to conquering the entire world in order to unify in what is called Pax Romana. This Roman Empires remained for over a thousand years.
