Greg Norman has a historic collapse as he blows a 6 stroke lead on the final day and loses the Masters.

As an athlete or fan, one of the most difficult things to stomach is when your team blows a big lead.  Losing a game hurts, but losing a game which you already thought you had won hurts much more.  And in Golf, the high pressure nature of the Sport has resulted in some epic collapses, and Greg Norman had one of these collapses in 1996.

It was on this day, April 14th, 1996, that Greg Norman blew a 6 stroke lead on the final day of the Masters.  With a 6 shot lead on the final round, to many it was a foregone conclusion that Norman would win the Green Jacket.  However, he didn’t, and it was painful to watch.

What made the collapse worse is how bad Greg Norman loss.  He was up 6 strokes, but ended up losing the Masters to Nick Faldo who beat Norman by 5 strokes.  Usually, when you are ahead by more than 2 strokes going into the final day of the Masters, you end up winning.  But Greg Norman let the pressure get to him and played one of the worst rounds of Golf of his life.
