The Dallas Cowboys win their first ever Super Bowl beating the Miami Dolphins 24 – 3

The Dallas Cowboys have long been considered America’s team.  But before they could be America’s team, they had to become Super Bowl Champions.

On this day, January 16th, in 1972, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Miami Dolphins 24 – 3 in Super Bowl VI.   It was a memorable moment for all Cowboys fans as it was their first ever super bowl victory.

In Super Bowl VI, quarterback Roger Staubach was awarded the game’s Most Valuable Player after tossing touchdown passes to Lance Alworth and Mike Ditka. In the previous season, the Cowboys had made the Super Bowl but they were narrowly defeated 16 – 13 by the Baltimore Colts.
