ABC announces it has TV rights to broadcast the 1976 Olympics.

America Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) multi-million dollar sports program exposed new innovations in sports broadcasting such as the multi-lens camera that captures every play and tackle of football players on Monday Night Football.
On this day, September 13th, in 1973, the ABC network is the first to televise the Olympic winter games. The Olympics was a great addition to the networks World Wide of Sports theme and it attracted many viewers. Originally the games were broadcasted in black and white, but in 1968 full colored games flowed through television sets worldwide from Mexico City to France to the USA.
The advanced technology of televising the Olympics established “highlighting” as a major way to recognize the accomplishments of athletes such as Jean-Claude Killy’s the alpine skiier’s win in the winter games and Bob Beamon’s win in the long jump competition of the summer games.
